Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on setting up a video monitoring system in my apartment. I’ve recently started exploring SmartThings and I’m excited to integrate some new devices, but I want to make sure I choose the right cameras for my needs.
My main goals are twofold: first, to ensure medical monitoring for my husband, who has severe respiratory issues, and second, to enhance the security of our apartment. We live on the second floor with a balcony, which makes me a bit concerned about potential security risks. I also need a camera outside the front door, but I don’t have easy access to power there, which complicates things.
I’ve heard about Arlo and Homeboy cameras, but I’m not sure how well they’ll integrate with SmartThings. I’m also considering a video doorbell, but again, the lack of power access is a hurdle. Does anyone have experience with these brands or similar setups?
Another option I’ve come across is using a more comprehensive security system like Scout or Canary that might work with SmartThings. I’m not sure how feasible that is, though. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether it’s better to stick with cameras that work directly with SmartThings, use ones that interface via IFTTT, or go with a third-party security system.
I’ve had some bad experiences with cameras in the past where features were removed after purchase, so I want to make sure whatever I choose will be reliable in the long run. If anyone has recommendations or tips, I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance for your help. ![]()
