Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts, I’m reaching out for some guidance on an issue I’ve been experiencing with my Nuki Smart Lock setup. I’ve been using the Nuki Bridge alongside the Nuki Smart Lock 1st generation for quite some time now, and while everything works smoothly under normal circumstances, I’ve encountered a problem that’s been puzzling me—especially during internet outages.
Here’s the setup: I rely solely on the Nuki API to control my smart lock through OpenHAB, using simple unlock and lock commands. This has worked flawlessly for years. However, whenever my internet connection drops, the Nuki Bridge becomes unresponsive. I can still ping the bridge, but sending any lock action commands either results in no response or an extremely delayed response, often exceeding 30 seconds. This is a significant inconvenience, as it means I can’t unlock the door without a physical key during internet outages—a scenario I’d like to avoid.
I’ve tried reaching out to Nuki customer support, but they directed me here, mentioning that developer forums are the best place for API-related issues. I’ve scoured the forums and found a few threads with similar issues, but unfortunately, no definitive solutions.
I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this and, more importantly, if there’s a workaround or fix. Is there a way to configure the Nuki Bridge to prioritize local API requests over internet connectivity? Or perhaps a setting within OpenHAB that could help manage this better?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m hopeful that the community can shed some light on this issue and help me achieve a more reliable smart lock system, even when the internet is down.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!
