Seeking Non-Motion Presence Sensors for Temperature Monitoring

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on finding the right temperature and humidity sensor that also detects presence without using motion sensors. I currently have some sensors in different rooms, and in my master bedroom, I’m using an ecobee sensor which detects occupancy through infrared rather than motion. However, I’d prefer not to use PIR motion sensors due to their size and the perception they might give of being intrusive.

Does anyone know of any good alternatives that can detect presence without motion? I’m open to both Z-Wave and Zigbee options. My goal is to replicate the ‘Away’ and ‘Home’ functionality of the ecobee on a room-by-room basis. Currently, I’m using rule machine rules based on the Thermostat Scheduler, which is time-based. Once I can reliably detect presence, I’ll need to figure out how to handle the time someone spends in a room—like distinguishing between a quick visit to grab something and a longer stay.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
