Seeking Recommendations for Non-Interactive Energy Monitoring Plugs

Hi everyone, I’m currently exploring ways to monitor energy usage in my home more effectively. I’ve noticed that a significant portion of my power consumption isn’t being tracked, which has led me to consider adding more monitoring devices. However, I’m cautious about using regular smart plugs because they can be accidentally turned off, especially by less tech-savvy family members or even unintentional actions.

What I’m ideally looking for is a smart plug that only measures energy usage without the ability to switch devices on or off. This would be perfect for monitoring critical appliances like freezers or refrigerators, where an accidental power cut could be disastrous. I’ve heard that Tasmota-powered plugs might offer a solution by disabling the switching functionality through custom scripts, but I’m not entirely sure how feasible that is.

I’m also interested in plugs that can send data via HTTP, MQTT, or Zigbee, as these protocols integrate well with my existing smart home ecosystem. Additionally, availability in Europe, particularly in Germany, is a key factor for me.

Has anyone successfully implemented a similar setup? I’d love to hear about your experiences, recommendations, or any workarounds you’ve found. Your insights would be invaluable as I look to enhance my home’s energy monitoring without compromising safety or reliability.
