I’ve recently reached a point where my current router can no longer handle the number of devices in my smart home setup. With 4 Samsung cameras, 4 WAM speakers, and numerous other IoT devices, my router is constantly rebooting or losing the 5GHz band. I’m considering setting up multiple LAN networks for different device types, but I’m unsure how to implement this without creating a bottleneck.
I currently have a Moto SB6212 router and two access points, providing 90% WiFi coverage throughout my house. However, the actual traffic handling is the issue. My device list includes 8 Nest protectors, 2 Ecobee thermostats, 12 IP cameras, 4 TiVo DVRs, and many more devices.
I’m open to enterprise-grade solutions, but I’m not sure if mesh WiFi is the right path given my reliance on hardwired devices. Any recommendations or experiences with similar setups would be greatly appreciated!
