Hello everyone, I hope this message finds you well! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation and have been absolutely thrilled with the capabilities of Home Assistant. However, there’s one feature I’ve been longing to get working seamlessly: integrating Google Play Music with my Home Assistant setup.
I’ve poured a considerable amount of time into exploring various methods to achieve this integration. Initially, I tried using the Google Assistant Webserver in a Docker container, which seemed promising but fell short when it came to playing playlists. It worked for albums, but playlists just wouldn’t stream, which was a bit of a letdown.
Undeterred, I delved into the gmusicproxy project, hoping it might bridge the gap. While it did create static URLs for playlists, passing these URLs to the media player didn’t yield the desired results. The music simply didn’t play, leaving me puzzled and a bit frustrated. I also came across mentions of an unofficial custom component, but it appears it’s no longer actively maintained, which adds another layer of complexity to the situation.
I understand the challenges in integrating third-party services like Google Play Music into Home Assistant, especially considering the limitations imposed by Google itself. However, I’m hopeful that there might be a workaround or a community-developed solution that I haven’t stumbled upon yet.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has successfully integrated Google Play Music into their Home Assistant setup or has insights into potential solutions. Whether it’s through a different proxy setup, a custom script, or even leveraging third-party services, I’m all ears!
The idea of controlling my music directly from Home Assistant is incredibly appealing, and I’m confident that with the right approach, it’s achievable. Let’s keep the conversation going and explore every avenue to make this a reality.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions! I’m excited to see what innovative ideas the community comes up with.
