I’ve seen settings to specify the HomePod Mini as G410 chime but I cannot get it to work. All my devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. All my firmware and OS are up-to-date. Do you have a specific instructions to configure this? Thanks.
I don’t have the doorbell, but there should be “Chime on HomePod” under the notification settings on the doorbell in Home.
Possibly related… I’m trying to get the HomePod to play a song from my Apple Music Library. There seems to be an Apple limitation on using the doorbell button as a trigger to initiate the song. Alternatively, I’d like to use the doorbell as a sensor in an Apple HomeKit automation. I can use the G4 motion detection as a trigger for the automation but the actual doorbell button press does not show up as a sensor. ?? This is my first attempt at using home automation and it is truly a slog… Anyone have good resources (ie, tips and tricks) for using Apple HomeKit with the G4 doorbell?
Thanks. That was set to be on but the chime wasn’t happening. It started working at some point but don’t know why.
Go to Settings (
) for any HomePod via Apple Home. All the way near the bottom is your Chime enablement.
Exactly. It can be accessed from the HomePod settings or also from the general settings of the house.
Hi, my advise to check the following:
-“Home Settings” → “Home Hubs & Bridges” → “Active Home Hub” → Turn off “Automatic Selection”; if you have more device to act as a home hub (Apple TV, HomePod, HomePod mini, older iPad) do not let the app to make automatic selection
-use only stable OS on your devices; sometimes beta or developer beta is a mess
Agree, there’s a significant limitation on Home Automation possibilities compared to Personal Automation/Shortcuts, but use a push button or motion sensor shall work as trigger. After that it takes three step to finalize Home Automation (even without using “Convert To Shortcut” button during the process) to play a specific sound on your HomePod mini.
Let us know how it goes when you have time.
I love having my HomePods act as chimes
If you have an Alexa it works easily
