Setting Up a Custom Circadian Lighting Schedule

Hey everyone, I’ve been really interested in creating a more natural lighting experience in my home, and I stumbled upon the idea of setting up a circadian lighting schedule. I know that circadian rhythms play a huge role in our sleep-wake cycles, and I thought it would be awesome to have my lights adjust throughout the day to mimic natural sunlight. :sunrise::sparkles:

I started by researching how to implement this in Home Assistant. I came across some really helpful scripts and automations that use the sun component to track sunrise and sunset times. The idea is to gradually increase the brightness in the morning and shift the color temperature to cooler tones in the evening to help signal it’s time to wind down. :night_with_stars:

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  1. Morning Routine: I set up an automation that slowly increases the brightness of my bedroom lights over 30 minutes starting 15 minutes before my alarm goes off. This gentle wake-up call has made mornings feel much more natural and less jarring. :relieved:

  2. Daytime Adjustments: During the day, I have my lights set to a neutral white tone to keep the space bright and energizing. It’s been great for working from home and keeping my energy levels up. :bulb:

  3. Evening Wind-Down: In the evening, I’ve programmed my lights to gradually shift to warmer tones and lower brightness as the sun sets. This has really helped me feel more relaxed in the evenings, and I’ve noticed I’m falling asleep easier. :crescent_moon:

  4. Integration with Smart Thermostat: I also integrated this lighting schedule with my smart thermostat to adjust the temperature slightly cooler in the evenings, creating a more conducive environment for sleep. :stop_sign:

I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has tips on how to refine this setup further. Would love to explore adding in some more dynamic adjustments based on real-time weather conditions or even integrating it with my coffee maker to have a perfect morning brew ready when I wake up! :coffee:

Let me know your thoughts and any suggestions you might have!
