Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience setting up a routine to turn off a space heater after a delay. It’s been a fun project, and I hope it can help someone else too!
I recently purchased a smart outlet to control my space heater, and I wanted to automate turning it off after I go to bed. I decided to set up a routine called ‘Good Night’ that activates when I press a button on my smart speaker. The goal was to have the heater turn off automatically after 30 minutes, giving me enough time to fall asleep without worrying about safety.
Here’s how I did it:
-
Routine Setup: I used my smart home app to create a new routine named ‘Good Night’. I added the button press as the trigger and included the smart outlet as the device to control.
-
Adding a Delay: To add the 30-minute delay, I looked into the app’s automation features. I found an option to set a timer after the routine is triggered. This way, the outlet stays on for exactly 30 minutes before turning off.
-
Testing: I tested the routine a few times to make sure everything worked smoothly. It’s been working perfectly, and I no longer have to worry about leaving the heater on overnight!
If anyone has tips or alternative methods for setting up similar routines, I’d love to hear them! It’s amazing how these smart devices can make our lives easier and safer.
Happy automating everyone! ![]()
