Sharing Smart Home Projects, Tips, and Ideas

I’ve been really enjoying diving into the world of smart home automation, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and projects with the community. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, I hope this thread inspires some new ideas or provides helpful insights!

1. My Home Alarm System

One of my favorite projects has been creating a custom home alarm system using Home Assistant. It’s been a great way to add an extra layer of security and peace of mind. I’ve set up motion sensors, door contacts, and even integrated some smart cameras for added surveillance. The system sends me notifications if anything unusual is detected, and I can check in on my phone or smart speaker. It’s been a fun challenge to tweak and optimize, and I’ve learned so much in the process.

2. Feature Idea: +1 or -1 Fan Settings

I love my Govee Smart Six Button Remote, but I’d love it even more if I could program one button to increase the fan by 1 and another button to decrease it by 1. This would make adjusting fan speeds so much more convenient, especially when I’m in the middle of something or just want a quick tweak. If anyone knows of a workaround or has similar feature requests, I’d love to hear about it!

3. Timer Flow for Lights

Another project I’ve been working on is creating a generic flow that acts as a timer for my lights. The idea is that when I turn a lamp on, I can link it to a flow that will turn it off after a set amount of time. I’ve been experimenting with using the delay node and resetting the timer each time the lamp is turned on or off. It’s been a bit tricky, but I’m getting closer to a solution that works seamlessly. If anyone has tips or alternative approaches, I’d be happy to hear them!

I’d love to hear about your smart home projects, tips, and ideas too! Whether it’s a cool integration, a clever workaround, or just something you’re proud of, sharing your experiences helps us all learn and grow. Let’s keep the creativity flowing!

Cheers,
