I’ve been using Shelly 1 devices for a while now, and they’ve been a great addition to my smart home setup. However, recently I’ve encountered some connectivity issues with one of my Shelly 1 units. The device itself still functions perfectly—the buttons work, and the Auto Off Timer operates as expected. But it’s no longer showing up on my Wi-Fi network, nor is it visible under its own Access Point. This has been a bit puzzling, as I know others have faced similar issues before, but I’m struggling to find a solution that works for me right now.
One odd thing I noticed is the data usage reported by my Unifi system. The Shelly 1 in question shows 12GB uploaded and 37.6MB downloaded, which seems unusually high compared to other Shelly devices I have, some of which have been running for much longer. I’m not sure how that could be possible, but it’s definitely something to look into.
I’ve started to suspect that the issue might be related to signal strength. The RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) for this Shelly is around -85dB, which doesn’t seem strong enough. What’s confusing is that other Shelly devices are connecting to a Unifi AP that’s further away, while this one isn’t. On my laptop, the signal strength is around -50dB, which is much better. To address this, I’m planning to set up another AP closer to the Shelly, but I’m not entirely confident that will solve the problem completely.
I’ve also considered the possibility of interference or physical obstructions affecting the Wi-Fi signal. Maybe moving the device or adjusting the placement of the router could help. Another thought is checking if there are any firmware updates available for the Shelly or the Unifi AP that might improve connectivity.
In the meantime, I’ll keep experimenting with different placements and configurations. If anyone has encountered similar issues or has any advice, I’d really appreciate hearing from you. Let’s hope we can figure this out soon!
