Shelly 1 Plus Integration and Magnetic Contact Sensor Setup

I’ve been experimenting with integrating my Hörmann Liftronic Garage Door Opener with a Shelly 1 Plus to control it via my smartphone. The setup involved connecting the Shelly 1 Plus to a 230V power source and linking it to my existing garage door switch. Here’s how I did it:

Setup Overview

  1. Power Supply: I connected the Shelly 1 Plus to a 230V outlet, ensuring it has a stable power source.
  2. Input/Output Configuration: I wired the garage door switch to the Shelly’s I/O port, allowing it to trigger the door opener.
  3. Magnetic Contact Sensor Integration: To monitor the door’s status, I added an Abus MK2000W Magnetic Contact Sensor. This sensor detects whether the door is open or closed and sends updates to the Shelly app.

Challenges and Solutions

Initially, I faced a challenge with the magnetic sensor’s voltage rating. Since it’s designed for 100V, I was concerned about connecting it directly to the Shelly’s 230V supply. I solved this by using a 12V power adapter specifically for the sensor, ensuring it operates safely within its voltage range.

Tips for Others

  • Voltage Matching: Always check the voltage requirements of your sensors and adapt accordingly.
  • Placement: Position the magnetic sensor securely to ensure accurate readings.
  • App Configuration: Spend time customizing the Shelly app to match your needs, such as setting up notifications for door status changes.

Conclusion

This integration has been a great addition to my smart home setup. It not only provides convenient control but also adds a layer of security by monitoring the garage door’s status. I’m excited to explore more automation possibilities with my Shelly devices!
