Hey everyone, I’m absolutely thrilled to share my experience with the Shelly 1 PM! As a complete newbie to this world, I was blown away by how user-friendly and versatile this device is. Let me take you through my journey of setting it up to control my Kellerraum heater with an external switch. Spoiler alert: It worked like a charm! 
My Setup
I wanted to use the Shelly 1 PM to control a 2000W convection heater in my occasional-use Kellerraum. The goal was to create a simple yet effective system where I could manually turn the heater on and off using an external switch. But I also wanted to add a bit of automation to make things more convenient.
The Mindestszenario
Here’s what I aimed for:
- Press the switch once: The heater turns on and stays on for 1 hour.
- Press the switch again within that hour: The heater turns off immediately.
This way, the heater would never run longer than necessary, and I could easily control it with just a single press of the switch.
The Process
- Connecting the Shelly 1 PM: I started by connecting the Shelly 1 PM to my heater. It was surprisingly straightforward—just a few wires and I was good to go.
- Setting Up the External Switch: I installed the external switch in a convenient location. This was a simple mechanical switch that I connected to the Shelly 1 PM.
- Configuring the Shelly: Using the Shelly app, I set up the automation rules. I configured the Shelly to turn the heater on when the switch was pressed and to turn it off after 1 hour. I also added a rule to turn the heater off immediately if the switch was pressed again within that hour.
- Testing the System: I tested the system thoroughly to ensure it worked as intended. Pressing the switch once turned the heater on, and pressing it again within the hour turned it off. Everything worked perfectly!
The Outcome
I’m thrilled with how this setup turned out. It’s simple, effective, and exactly what I needed for my Kellerraum. The Shelly 1 PM has exceeded my expectations, and I’m already brainstorming other ways to use it around my home.
