I recently decided to take my home’s energy consumption into my own hands by purchasing a Shelly 3EM energy monitor. I’ve always been curious about how much energy my appliances use, especially my solar panel setup on the balcony. While most setups require connecting to three phases, my old house only has one phase available. I’ve been experimenting with the setup as described in the manual’s Schaltbild 4 configuration, bridging VA-VC and attaching the sensors to high-power devices like my heater and kitchen appliances. This way, I can monitor the energy usage of these devices individually, which is incredibly insightful for optimizing my energy consumption.
However, I’ve noticed some quirks with the sensor readings. For instance, when I turn on the kitchen lights, the energy usage doesn’t always reflect immediately or accurately on the app. It’s almost as if the sensors are sharing the load or misreporting the usage. Despite this, the overall data seems consistent when I check it over time, which is reassuring.
I have a few questions for the community: Is it possible to place multiple sensors on a single wire to monitor multiple devices, like my kitchen lights and washing machine? And would it be feasible to use just one sensor for the main phase and leave the others inactive? I’d love to hear your experiences and tips on optimizing the Shelly 3EM setup for a single-phase system. Thanks in advance for your insights!
