Shelly Device Migration to New WiFi: Tips and Tricks

Hey everyone, I’ve recently gone through the process of migrating my Shelly devices to a new WiFi network, and I wanted to share my experience and some tips that might help others facing similar challenges.

First off, I have a mix of Shelly 2.5, 1, and a Dimmer in my setup. The goal was to seamlessly switch them over to a new network without any hiccups. I followed the standard procedure—entering the new WiFi name and password, pressing next—but ran into a static screen where nothing seemed to work. Frustrating, right?

After some research and trial and error, here’s what worked for me:

  1. Ensure Stable Connection: Make sure your new WiFi network is stable and that the devices are within range. Weak signals can cause the setup to hang.
  2. Check Firmware Updates: Ensure all your Shelly devices are running the latest firmware. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues.
  3. Manual Reset: If the setup screen freezes, try resetting the device to factory settings. This can often resolve connection issues.
  4. Use the Shelly Cloud App: If the mobile app isn’t responding, try using the Shelly Cloud web interface. I found it more reliable for adding devices manually.
  5. Sequential Addition: Add one device at a time to avoid overwhelming the network. Let each device fully connect before moving on to the next.

I also noticed that the Shelly Dimmer was particularly stubborn. It required a bit more patience and a couple of restarts before it finally connected.

On a positive note, once everything was set up, the devices performed flawlessly. The integration with my existing smart home ecosystem was seamless, and I didn’t encounter any further issues.

If anyone has additional tips or encountered similar problems, I’d love to hear about your experiences! Let’s keep the community knowledge flowing.
