Shelly Devices for Remote Control of Water Heater

Hey everyone! I’ve been exploring ways to integrate my home systems more efficiently, and I wanted to share my recent success with using Shelly devices to control my water heater. This setup has been a game-changer for me, and I hope it can inspire others looking to streamline their home automation setup. After moving into my new home, I noticed that our water heater was located in the attic, making it inconvenient to manually switch it on and off. I wanted a way to control it from the comfort of my kitchen, bathroom, or even the guest bathroom. This is where I discovered the potential of Shelly devices.I decided to use three Shelly 1 units and one Shelly Plug S to achieve this. The idea was simple yet effective: each light switch in the kitchen, bathroom, and guest bathroom would trigger not only the lights but also the Shelly Plug S, which in turn would activate the water heater. After a few minutes of heating, the system would automatically shut off, ensuring no wasted water or energy. The setup was straightforward. I programmed the Shelly devices using the Shelly app, setting up automation rules that linked the light switches to the water heater. It was a matter of a few clicks, and everything started working seamlessly. Now, whenever someone enters the bathroom and turns on the lights, the water heater starts, and after 2 minutes, it shuts off automatically. This has been incredibly convenient, especially during the colder months when we want hot water ready without waiting.I’ve been using this system for a few weeks now, and it’s been flawless. The Shelly devices have proven to be reliable, and the automation has made my life much easier. I no longer have to worry about running out of hot water or wasting energy on an always-on heater. If anyone else has tried something similar or has tips on optimizing such setups, I’d love to hear about it! Let’s continue to share our experiences and learn from each other. Happy automating! :rocket:
