Shelly Devices Update Fix and Tips

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my recent experience with updating my Shelly devices. I updated all my Shelly devices to the latest firmware, and unfortunately, I encountered the same issue as many of you— ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE when trying to access them. At first, I was a bit worried, thinking it might be a hardware issue or something more serious. But after some research and troubleshooting, I managed to fix it without having to reset each device individually. Here’s what I did:

  1. Check Firmware Compatibility: I made sure that the firmware version I was updating to was compatible with my devices. Sometimes, jumping too far ahead can cause issues.

  2. Power Cycle: I restarted each device by unplugging it and waiting for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in. This helped in establishing a fresh connection.

  3. Network Reset: For devices that still didn’t connect, I performed a network reset. This involved holding the button on the device until the LED started blinking, then setting it up again through the Shelly app.

  4. Firmware Rollback: As a last resort, I rolled back the firmware to a previous stable version. This was a temporary fix until the issue with the new update was resolved.

I wanted to share this because I know how frustrating it can be when devices suddenly stop working. It’s always a mix of relief and satisfaction when you manage to troubleshoot and fix the issue yourself. If anyone else has encountered similar problems, I’d love to hear your solutions or tips!

Also, if you’re looking for some cool automation ideas, I’ve been experimenting with setting up my Shelly devices to work seamlessly with Alexa routines. It’s been a game-changer for my smart home setup!
