Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the Shelly Dimmer 2 devices and the firmware issues I encountered recently. I’ve been using these devices for a while now, and they’ve been a reliable addition to my smart home setup. However, a few weeks ago, one of my dimmers started acting up, randomly turning off with the dreaded ERROR 1 message. I was a bit puzzled at first, but I decided to dig into the problem and see if I could find a solution.
First, I did some research and found that ERROR 1 typically relates to issues with zero crossing or noise on the AC line. I tried several troubleshooting steps, including changing the LED bulbs, testing with a single bulb, calibrating both leading and trailing edge dimmer modes, and even factory resetting the device. Unfortunately, none of these steps resolved the issue.
What did work, however, was rolling back the firmware to v1.8.5. I had been using a newer firmware version, but it seems that the updates introduced some instability for my specific setup. I also noticed that my other Shelly Dimmer 2 devices, which are running the latest firmware, didn’t have the same issues. This made me think that the problem was specific to this particular device and its interaction with the firmware update.
For anyone else experiencing similar issues, here are a few tips:
- Check Firmware Versions: If you’re encountering unexpected behavior, try rolling back to a previous firmware version. Sometimes, updates can introduce bugs that affect certain devices.
- Test with Single Bulbs: If you’re using multiple bulbs, try testing with a single bulb to rule out compatibility issues.
- Calibrate Dimmer Modes: Experiment with both leading and trailing edge dimmer modes to see if one works better for your setup.
- Factory Reset: While this didn’t solve my problem, it’s worth trying as a last resort before more advanced troubleshooting steps.
I’m happy to say that since switching back to v1.8.5, my Shelly Dimmer 2 has been working perfectly without any further issues. It’s a great reminder of how important it is to keep an eye on firmware updates and be prepared to roll back if something goes wrong.
If anyone else has encountered similar issues or has tips for troubleshooting, I’d love to hear about your experiences! Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
