Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience installing the Shelly Dimmer 2 in my bedroom. I’ve been really excited to get this set up, but I ran into a bit of a hiccup during the calibration process. Hopefully, this post can help others avoid the same issue or provide some useful tips! So, the setup: I have these T5 fluorescent lights above my wardrobe, and they’re controlled by two simple wall switches. The lights are dimmable, and the switches allow for both on/off and dimming via a press-and-hold function. I wanted to add some remote control functionality, so I decided to go with the Shelly Dimmer 2. I thought it would be a straightforward install, but calibration was a bit tricky. When I first started the calibration, the lights would dim up and down, but the process kept failing. I was a bit confused because the lights seemed to be responding, but the Shelly app wasn’t registering the changes properly. After some research and a few trial-and-error attempts, I realized the issue was with the way the dimmer was interacting with the existing wiring. Here’s what I learned: The Shelly Dimmer 2 works best when it’s the sole controller of the dimming function. If there are other devices or settings in the circuit that interfere with the dimming signal, it can cause calibration issues. In my case, there were some residual settings from the previous dimmer setup that were conflicting with the Shelly’s calibration process. To fix this, I had to reset the dimming circuit entirely. I turned off the power, disconnected the Shelly, and gave the circuit a few minutes to reset. Then, I carefully reconnected everything and restarted the calibration process. This time, it worked perfectly! The lights dimmed smoothly, and the Shelly app registered the changes without any problems. A few additional tips for anyone installing a Shelly Dimmer 2: - Make sure all other devices on the same circuit are turned off during calibration. - If you’re using a neutral wire, ensure it’s properly connected. - Take your time with the calibration process—don’t rush it. I’m really happy with how everything turned out. The Shelly Dimmer 2 is now seamlessly integrated into my smart home setup, and I can control the lights remotely with ease. It’s been a great addition to my bedroom automation! If anyone else is having trouble with their Shelly installation, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help troubleshoot or share more tips based on my experience. ![]()
