Shelly Integration and OwnTracks Zone Management

I’ve been exploring the integration of Shelly devices into my smart home setup and wanted to share my experiences, both challenges and successes. Earlier this year, I upgraded my home network to a new Fritzbox router with Glasfaser connectivity. While most of my devices transitioned smoothly, I encountered some quirks with my Shelly devices, particularly the 3EM and some 2.5 versions of the Rollladenstuerung. The issue was with re-connecting them to the new Wi-Fi network. After entering the new Wi-Fi credentials, they would disappear from the network and the app would mark them as offline. A quick factory reset and letting them establish their own Wi-Fi network was the workaround, but it’s definitely something that could be improved in future firmware updates.

On another note, I’ve been experimenting with OwnTracks for geofencing and zone management. While I managed to set up zones manually through Node-RED, I faced a significant hurdle—these zones wouldn’t update without a full restart of the system. I’ve been hoping for a feature that allows zones to be reloaded on the fly, perhaps through a command like zone.reload or homeassistant.reload_zones. This would streamline the process of updating zones without disrupting the entire system. If anyone has insights or workarounds for this, I’d be thrilled to hear about them!

Overall, while there are a few bumps in the road, the potential for these devices and integrations is immense. It’s all about persistence and creativity in finding solutions. I’d love to hear how others have tackled similar challenges or if there are any upcoming features that might address these pain points.
