I’ve been using Shelly TRV thermostats in my home for a while now, and while they’re fantastic devices, I’ve been struggling with their connectivity. Let me share my experiences and the solutions I found, in case anyone else is facing similar issues.
The Problem:
Most of my Shelly TRVs are sporadically unreachable through the Iobroker interface or the web interface. This is frustrating, especially when I want to adjust settings or monitor their performance. The RSSI values for these devices are often below -70 dB, indicating weak Wi-Fi signals. However, a few devices with the same RSSI values work perfectly, which is puzzling.
What I Tried:
- Static IP Addresses: I followed some advice to set static IPs, but this didn’t resolve the issue. The devices were still unreachable.
- Firmware Updates: I ensured all devices were running the latest firmware, but this didn’t help either.
- Repeater Placement: I moved a Wi-Fi repeater closer to the problematic devices. This improved connectivity for some, but not all.
- Direct Web Interface Access: I tried accessing the devices directly through their web interfaces. Surprisingly, this worked even when they were unreachable via Iobroker.
The Solution:
After some research, I realized the issue was related to the Wi-Fi signal strength. The Shelly TRVs on the lower floors were too far from the main router. I decided to add another Wi-Fi repeater specifically for these devices. This significantly improved their connectivity, and now they’re consistently reachable.
Tips for Others:- Signal Strength: Always check the RSSI values of your devices. If they’re below -70 dB, consider improving the Wi-Fi coverage in those areas.- Wi-Fi Repeaters: Adding a repeater can make a huge difference, especially in larger homes or multi-story buildings.- Direct Access: If your device is unreachable via a platform like Iobroker, try accessing it directly through its web interface. This can help confirm if the issue is with the device or the platform.
I hope this helps someone else who’s struggling with Shelly TRV connectivity issues. Happy tinkering! ![]()
