I recently found myself repeatedly entering the same ESPHome password for each new device I added to my Home Assistant setup. While it’s understandable to require a password for security, manually inputting it each time became quite tedious. This led me to wonder: why isn’t there an option to set a default password for ESPHome devices within Home Assistant?
If such a feature existed, it would streamline the setup process significantly. Imagine being able to specify a password once, and have it automatically applied to all new ESPHome devices. This would save time and reduce the chance of errors, especially for those of us managing multiple devices.
I reached out to the community to see if others had encountered the same issue or had any workarounds. Many users echoed my frustration, confirming that this is a common pain point. Some suggested using a script or automation to handle the password input, but these solutions felt a bit too hacky for my liking.
In the meantime, I’ve been using a simple text file to store my password, which helps a bit but doesn’t solve the root issue. I’m hopeful that the Home Assistant team might consider adding this feature in a future update. Until then, I’ll keep looking for ways to make my ESPHome setup a bit more seamless!
Have you faced similar challenges with ESPHome or other integrations? I’d love to hear your thoughts or any clever solutions you’ve come up with!
