Hey everyone, I’m a new member of this community and I’m currently exploring the world of smart home devices. I recently added two Shelly Plus 1 units to my setup and connected them to my Alexa skill through the cloud. After configuring them as ‘GH.Ventilator’ and ‘GH.Light’ (where GH stands for Garden House), I noticed that while they function perfectly within my network, their names aren’t very user-friendly when interacting via Alexa. The phrase ‘Gh.Ventilator einschalten’ just doesn’t roll off the tongue easily!
I chose this naming convention to keep things organized in my network, making it easy to identify devices at a glance. However, I’m curious if there’s a way to assign more intuitive ‘nicknames’ specifically for Alexa. It would be fantastic if I could refer to them by something simpler like ‘Garden Fan’ or ‘Garden Light’ without changing their network identifiers. This would greatly enhance my daily interaction with these devices.
I’m sure many of you have encountered similar situations when integrating multiple devices. I’d love to hear your tips and tricks for managing device names in a way that balances technical clarity with user-friendly simplicity. Any insights or experiences you can share would be invaluable!
Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to learning from the community!
Best regards,
Thomas
