Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share a fun project I recently completed. I’ve always been interested in energy efficiency, so I decided to set up some automations in Home Assistant to help reduce my energy usage without sacrificing comfort.
One of the things I focused on was optimizing my lighting system. I have a mix of smart bulbs and switches, and I wanted to make sure they were operating efficiently. I started by setting up a routine where the lights in less frequently used areas, like the hallway and bathroom, automatically dim when no one is in the room. This was a bit tricky at first, but after some trial and error, I got it working perfectly!
I also wanted to make sure that my heating system was running efficiently. I decided to set up an automation that adjusts the thermostat based on the time of day and whether anyone is home. For example, during the day when we’re usually out, the temperature drops a bit, and it warms up again just before we get back. This has helped reduce our heating bills significantly.
One challenge I faced was integrating all my devices seamlessly. I have a mix of brands, and sometimes getting them to work together required a bit of tweaking. But with some research and the help of the community, I was able to get everything up and running smoothly.
I’d love to hear about any energy-saving automations you’ve set up in your homes! What tips or tricks have worked well for you?
