Hey everyone, I wanted to share my journey in setting up a smart bathroom ventilation system using my Shelly 1 and Xiaomi devices. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I’m thrilled with how it turned out!
Initially, I had a straightforward setup where the fan turned on when humidity reached 75% and off when it dropped below 70%. But I noticed an issue when I manually turned on the fan using the wall switch. If the humidity dropped below the threshold while I was in the bathroom, the fan would turn off automatically, which wasn’t ideal. I wanted the fan to stay on for a set time after I manually activated it, regardless of humidity levels.
After some research and tweaking, I managed to adjust the rules to prioritize the manual activation. Now, when I turn the fan on manually, it stays on for 25 minutes before turning off automatically. If the humidity goes above 75% during that time, it extends the runtime. This has made my bathroom experience much more comfortable and energy-efficient!
Here’s a quick breakdown of what I did:
- Kept the humidity-based automation for automatic scenarios.
- Added a timer for manual activation to ensure consistent ventilation.
- Tested extensively to make sure the rules worked seamlessly together.
It’s amazing how a little bit of tinkering can make such a big difference. I’m now looking into other areas of my home where I can apply similar automation techniques. If anyone has questions or needs advice, feel free to reach out!
