Does the smart button need to wake up? It feels like sometimes it doesn’t work for a few seconds and I have to try it again.

Is it the mini switch that you’re referring to? I’ve had one for a few years now with automations mapped to single and double presses and both have worked flawlessly. The automations were created via HomeKit, in case that makes a difference.
