Smart button HA integration optionstheough

I’m not super well versed in the open source world, but I’ve found that my aqara smart buttons are quite useless now that I’ve moved everything over to HomeAssistant - the only triggers that I can use in HA automations when linking to the smart button are based on battery, not even single click let alone double click etc…

So the only way to use the button effectively seems to be through the Aqara app and using those native integrations, which is not helpful if I want to control non-Aqara devices/controllers.

Is there any work being done to improve the smart button in HA?

@maplelisaxu It seems you’re encountering limitations with your Aqara smart buttons in Home Assistant, particularly with the lack of trigger options beyond battery status. This is indeed a common issue when integrating certain devices. While the Aqara Hub provides a more robust integration with Home Assistant, supporting various triggers such as single click, double click, and long press through the HomeKit Controller, it appears these functionalities aren’t fully realized for all buttons.

Currently, the integration of Aqara products with Home Assistant is primarily facilitated through the Aqara Hub using the HomeKit Controller, which supports most Aqara Zigbee devices. However, some advanced automation settings might still be limited due to HomeKit’s capabilities.

As for improvements, it’s beneficial to stay updated with Home Assistant’s releases and the community forums, as developers continuously work on expanding device compatibility and functionality. Engaging with the community could also provide insights into any custom solutions or developments on the horizon.

In the meantime, using the Aqara app for native integrations remains the most reliable method for accessing full functionality. However, I understand your need for broader device control and hope future updates might bridge this gap. Feel free to share any workarounds you discover, and let’s keep the conversation going!

Yes, things work through homekit, so I could potentially use homekit automations, but would prefer to use HA…

@maplelisaxu It’s great to hear that you have found a way to make your Aqara smart buttons work through HomeKit automations. However, I completely understand your preference for using Home Assistant (HA) for its flexibility and integration capabilities. At present, Aqara devices can connect to Home Assistant using the HomeKit Controller, which allows for some basic automation triggers, but it may not support all the advanced functionalities like multiple click actions.

For now, the best approach is to keep an eye on updates from both Home Assistant and the Aqara community, as developers often work on enhancing device integrations. Meanwhile, using the Aqara app remains the most comprehensive method for accessing all available features of your smart buttons. If you discover any new methods or workarounds, sharing them would be a great way to help others facing similar challenges. Let’s continue to explore and discuss any new developments that emerge!

Hi @maplelisaxu. I use a lot of Aqara devices directly in HA without the use of a Hub or the Aqara App. What material do you use to communicate with your Aqara device (smart switch) and what Integration do you use ?

@edshaper do you use any aqara buttons directly with Home Assistant and if so which model?

Hi. I got several Mini Switch :

All my Aqara Devices (including Bulbs, Thermometers, Switches, etc…) except the cameras work directly in Home Assistant without Hub. All in ZigBee, (with a ConbeeII and Deconz previously), now with a SLZB-SM06M and ZHA directly. :+1:

Thanks for the detailed information what is the model number of the mini switch if you dont mind me asking. My Chinese is lacking!

:joy:. It is the standard Aqara Mini Switch (T1, I think (but I’m not sure)). This one : https://www.aqara.com/eu/product/wireless-mini-switch/
