Smart Camera Installation Tips and Tricks

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with installing smart cameras around my home. For those of you who might be new to this, I hope this helps you avoid some common pitfalls and get the most out of your setup.

First, I started with the Wyze Cam Floodlight Plug-In Mount. It was a game-changer for me because it eliminated the need for drilling or installing a junction box. The plug-and-play design made installation a breeze, and the floodlight provides excellent coverage. However, I noticed that the plug-in mount was temporarily out of stock, which was a bit frustrating. I ended up using a toothpick container as a makeshift solution, cutting it down to size and securing it with 3M double-sided tape. This method worked surprisingly well and even provided some extra protection against the cold weather.

For my outdoor cameras, I decided to go with the Schlage BE469WK locks. They’ve been reliable so far, but I did run into some firmware issues with one of them. After some research, I realized that OTA updates aren’t supported, so I had to manually reset and re-pair the lock multiple times. It was a bit of a hassle, but it eventually worked out.

I also wanted to mention the importance of testing and integration. I integrated my cameras with the Konnected alarm panel, which has been a great addition to my security setup. However, I’m still exploring the best way to give temporary access to service people while maintaining the chime function. If anyone has tips on this, I’d love to hear them!

Lastly, I’d like to ask the community for advice on video streaming. I’ve been experimenting with live video feeds in my Hubitat dashboard using the tinyCam driver. It’s been functional, but I’ve encountered some dashboard crashes when trying to display multiple feeds. Does anyone have a more stable solution or tips for optimizing this setup?

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
