Hey everyone, I’m diving into the world of smart cameras and custom automations, and I wanted to share some tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way. ![]()

First, I’ve been experimenting with integrating my Wyze cameras into Home Assistant. The process has been pretty smooth, but I did run into a hiccup with the SD card slot melting on my Wyze Cam V2. It was a bit scary, butLuckily, Wyze handled the replacement seamlessly. I’ve since made sure to use only their recommended cards to avoid any issues. ![]()
On the automation front, I’ve been working on setting up a system where my cameras trigger actions based on motion detection. For instance, when motion is detected in the garden, I want my smart lights to turn on and my phone to receive a notification. The challenge has been fine-tuning the sensitivity of the motion detection to avoid false triggers, especially with all the wildlife around my place. ![]()
Another project I’m excited about is creating a custom gauge widget for my HABPanel dashboard. I found a GitHub repository with some .jar files, but installation was a bit tricky. After some trial and error, I managed to get it working by ensuring my HABPanel was up to date and saving my panel config before importing the widget. It’s such a neat way to visualize sensor data! ![]()
I’m also curious about others’ experiences with camera automation. Do you have any favorite widgets or scripts that make your setup more efficient? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks! ![]()
Lastly, I wanted to mention the recent update to the Reolink app. It’s been a game-changer for managing my cameras on the go. The new features make monitoring and configuring my devices so much easier. If you haven’t updated yet, I highly recommend it! ![]()
Keep innovating and sharing your awesome projects! Let’s continue to make our smart homes even smarter! ![]()
