Smart Camera Integration and Power Considerations

I’ve been thinking about adding some cameras to my smart home setup, and I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences with the community. My current system is based on a 2GIG alarm panel, and while it’s reliable, I feel like adding cameras could really take my home security to the next level. However, there’s one big concern holding me back: power and Ethernet connectivity.

I’ve done some research, and it seems like most cameras require either a power source or an Ethernet connection, especially if you want to ensure consistent performance. The problem is, in my home, there aren’t always power outlets or Ethernet ports near where I’d like to mount the cameras. This has made me a bit hesitant, as I don’t want to deal with the hassle of running new wires or dealing with unreliable wireless connections.

I stumbled upon some discussions about wireless cameras that don’t require Ethernet, but I’m still not sure if they’d be reliable enough for my needs. I’ve also heard about battery-powered options, but I’m concerned about how often I’d need to replace or recharge the batteries. It seems like a trade-off between convenience and maintenance.

On the plus side, I’ve read some great reviews about cameras that come with their own power adapters and mounting brackets, which could simplify the installation process. I’m leaning toward getting a couple of those and seeing how they work before committing to a full setup.

Another thing I’ve been considering is integrating these cameras with my existing smart home ecosystem. I’d love to be able to control them through my voice assistant or have them trigger certain automations, like sending me a notification if motion is detected while I’m away.

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences others have had with camera installations, especially in tricky locations or with limited infrastructure. Have you found a reliable camera that works well without Ethernet? How did you handle the power situation? Any tips or tricks would be incredibly helpful!

Looking forward to hearing from the community and hopefully getting some clarity on the best way to move forward with this project. Thanks in advance for your insights!
