Smart Camera Setup and Outdoor Lighting Automation

Hi everyone, I’m a new user here and I wanted to share my recent experience with setting up a Wyze camera and automating my outdoor lights. It’s been a fun learning process and I’d love to hear how others have tackled similar projects!

First, I installed a Wyze camera to monitor my backyard. My wife and I wanted something simple yet effective, and Wyze didn’t disappoint. The setup was straightforward, and the app has a nice interface. I was surprised how easy it was to integrate it with my existing smart home setup. The camera quality is decent, and the motion detection works well. I’ve already caught a few curious squirrels and birds!

Next, I wanted to automate my outdoor lights to turn on at sunset and off at sunrise. I did some research and found a great guide on using Vera Lite for scheduling. I set up a rule where the lights come on 30 minutes after sunset and turn off 30 minutes before sunrise. It’s been working perfectly, and I love how it saves energy without compromising security.

I’m also curious about how others manage their outdoor lighting. Do you use motion sensors alongside your scheduled automation? I’d love to hear about other creative solutions people have implemented. Maybe there’s a way to integrate weather data so the lights come on if it starts raining or snowing below freezing!

Lastly, I’ve been exploring Philips Hue for some color-changing effects. It’s amazing how lighting can completely transform the mood of a space. I’m thinking of setting up a scene for movie nights with dimmed lights and some subtle color shifts. If anyone has tips or favorite scenes they’d like to share, I’d be grateful!

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
