Exploring the world of smart camper automation has been an exciting journey for me. As someone who loves the freedom of travel but also appreciates the convenience of technology, I’ve been researching how to integrate smart home features into my camper. From setting up a reliable Wi-Fi network to automating lights and heating, there’s a lot to consider.
One of the first things I tackled was ensuring consistent Wi-Fi connectivity. I discovered that using a combination of ESPHome and Home Assistant made it easier to monitor and control various aspects of the camper, like oil levels and temperature. I even managed to set up a compact oil level sensor using a TE501 sensor, a D1 Mini, and some Neopixel discs. It was a bit challenging, but seeing it all come together was rewarding!
Another area I explored was integrating cameras into my setup. I wanted to add a live feed to my Lovelace dashboard but ran into some hurdles. After some research, I figured out how to configure the camera using ffmpeg and stream it successfully. It was a great feeling to finally see everything working smoothly.
For those looking to start their smart camper automation journey, I’d recommend beginning with a solid Wi-Fi setup and gradually adding sensors and cameras. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for support—it’s been invaluable for me. Happy travels and happy automating! ![]()
