Smart Control of Bathroom Lighting and Loft Extractor Fan

Hi there,

I’ve recently been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I’m really excited about the possibilities it offers. I’ve already set up a few Fibaro single and dual relays to control my outdoor lighting, and now I’m looking to take things to the next level with my bathroom and loft extractor fan.

Currently, we have a Vent Axia unit in our loft that runs continuously to manage humidity levels. While it’s effective at extracting moisture, it’s also pulling heat out of four rooms: the master bathroom, utility room, downstairs toilet, and ensuite. This isn’t ideal, especially during colder months. I’d love to find a smarter way to control this system.

Here’s what I’m hoping to achieve starting with the master bathroom:

  1. Motion and Light Level Detection: I want the master bathroom downlights to turn on only when motion is detected and a certain light level is reached. No point in wasting energy unnecessarily!
  2. Humidity-Based Extraction: When humidity reaches a certain threshold, I’d like the loft extractor fan to switch on automatically and turn off once the humidity drops below that level.
  3. Automatic Shutdown: After a period of no motion, the bathroom lights should switch off to save energy.

I’d also love to extend this setup to the other three rooms, but I’m starting with the master bathroom to keep things manageable. I’ve heard that SmartThings might be able to handle this, but I’m not entirely sure how to go about it. Are there specific sensors or smart devices that would work best for this project?

I’m really curious to hear from anyone who’s tackled a similar project or has advice on how to make this work seamlessly. Let me know if you’ve got any tips or recommendations!

Looking forward to your insights!

Best,
