Smart Doorbell Integration: Looking for Ideas and Solutions

I’m really excited about the idea of integrating a smart doorbell into my home automation setup! I’ve been using a conventional doorbell for years, and while it works, I’d love to take it to the next level with some smart features. The challenge I’m facing is that my current doorbell system doesn’t have a constant power supply—it only gets power when someone rings the bell. This makes it tricky to connect any smart devices directly.

I’ve heard that Shelly devices are great for situations like this, especially the Shelly Uni or Shelly Plus 1. They’re compact and can work with limited power sources, which seems perfect for my setup. But I’m not entirely sure how to connect them to my doorbell wiring. I’ve seen some diagrams online, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has successfully done this before.

Another idea I’ve come across is using a Raspberry Pi or a similar device to detect when the doorbell circuit is closed and then send a notification to my smart home system. This could be a fun DIY project, but I’m not very experienced with coding or hardware modifications. I’d appreciate any tips or resources that could help me get started.

I’m also curious about how others have integrated their doorbells into their smart home ecosystems. Do you use voice notifications, push notifications, or something else? I’d love to know what’s worked well for you and if there are any common pitfalls to avoid.

If anyone has experience with this or knows of a reliable solution, I’d be thrilled to hear from you! Let’s make my doorbell smarter and more connected.
