Smart Garage Door Automation with Google Assistant Integration

After spending countless hours searching for the perfect solution, I finally found a way to integrate my Linear FS20Z-1 relay with Google Assistant to control my garage door. The journey started with a simple problem: I wanted to say ‘Hey Google, open the garage door’ while still on my motorcycle, without needing to pull out my phone.

The solution involved creating a custom device handler and a companion SmartApp. The device handler tracks the garage door’s state and ensures the relay only activates when necessary. The SmartApp links the relay to the garage door sensor, keeping everything synchronized.

The best part? Google Assistant doesn’t see this as a security risk, so I can use voice commands to open and close the door. I added safety features to prevent the relay from staying engaged and ensure it resets properly.

This setup has been a game-changer for me. No more fumbling with my phone while wearing gloves, and the door now closes automatically if left open. It’s a small project, but it’s made a big difference in my daily routine. If anyone else has an old relay sitting around, I’d love to hear if you’ve tried something similar or have any questions about my setup!
