Smart Garage Door Automation with Shelly Plus i4DC

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with automating my garage door using a Shelly Plus i4DC. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to integrate my garage door sensors into my smart home setup, and this device has been a game-changer for me!

I started by installing four Reed contacts along the garage door track to monitor its position—closed, 25% open, 75% open, and fully open. I connected these contacts to the Shelly Plus i4DC, which has been incredibly reliable so far. The challenge was ensuring that the intermediate contacts (25% and 75% open) could provide consistent feedback, as they only close briefly during the opening and closing process.

To address this, I created a helper switch within my smart home system that toggles its state with each contact closure. This allows me to track the door’s position accurately without constant monitoring. The Shelly Plus i4DC’s ability to handle multiple inputs and its integration with my existing smart home ecosystem have made this project a success.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has used Reed contacts or similar sensors for garage door automation. Any tips or tricks you’ve discovered would be invaluable! :fire_engine::sparkles:
