Smart Garage Door Opener Integration and Setup Guide

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent project where I connected my electric garage door opener to Openhab 5 using a Tuya-compatible device. The device I used is the SH128-W, which is not only affordable but also incredibly easy to set up. Here’s how I did it:

Installation Process

  1. Connecting the Device: I simply connected the two switch wires from my Novoferm/Novoport unit to the SH128-W. It was as straightforward as plugging it in and using the built-in button to test it out. The device worked perfectly on the first try!

  2. Configuration: Next, I added the SH128-W to the Tuya app. After setting up my account, I held the button on the device until it entered discovery mode. The app immediately detected it, and I was able to configure the WiFi settings right away. The best part? I could control the garage door from my phone in no time!

  3. Reed Contact Setup: I attached the reed contact to the garage door to monitor its status. The Tuya app instantly showed the status changes, which was a huge plus for me.

Openhab Configuration

To integrate everything into Openhab, I upgraded to version 5 and installed the Tuya binding. The setup process was smooth, and I was able to create items for both the door status and the switch functionality. I even added some rules to notify me if the door remains open during the evening.

Why This Solution?

What I love most about this setup is its simplicity and cost-effectiveness. The SH128-W is a great alternative for anyone looking to automate their garage door without breaking the bank. Plus, the compatibility with Openhab makes it a perfect fit for my smart home ecosystem.

If anyone has questions or needs help setting this up, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to assist. Happy automating! :fire_engine::sparkles:
