Smart Heating & Device Integration Tips for Your Holiday Home

Hi everyone! I’m in the process of renovating my holiday home and want to upgrade the heating system to something more modern and user-friendly. I’ve been relying on a mix of Shelly Switches and Home Assistant automations, but it’s time to go off-the-shelf for better reliability and ease of use, especially since I plan to rent out the property.

My main requirements are:

  • Must communicate through thick stone walls (currently using Unifi access points).
  • Integrated humidity sensor (damp has been a major issue).
  • Remote controllability via my local network.
  • Robust Home Assistant integration.
  • Multi-zone underfloor heating support.
  • Multiple thermostats (battery or wired).

I’ve been leaning towards the Drayton Wiser system as it seems to tick all the boxes, but I’m curious if there are other alternatives that might be a better fit. Has anyone had success with similar setups?

On a different note, I’ve been experimenting with integrating Sengled color bulbs into my Hubitat setup. While the white bulbs work perfectly, the color bulbs are temperamental. They pair but don’t respond to commands. I’m wondering if others have had similar experiences or if there’s a workaround without purchasing the Sengled hub.

Lastly, I’ve been trying to set up a scene that turns on the Apple TV when I disarm my security system, but it only works if I manually say the command. Is there a way to automate this without needing voice input?

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
