Smart Home Automation: A Journey of Comfort and Efficiency

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and it’s been a fascinating journey! From setting up my Sleep Number bed to integrate with SmartThings, to creating routines that adjust the bed pressure based on whether I’m relaxing or sleeping, it’s been a game-changer for my comfort. The ability to automate these adjustments has made my evenings much more relaxing, and I no longer have to fumble with the remote control every time I want to change the settings.

Another project I’ve been working on is monitoring power outages. I’ve set up a system using a Z-Wave door contact sensor and a relay to detect when the power goes out. It sends me notifications via email and Pushover, which is incredibly useful, especially for my office setup. I’m now looking into adding SSH functionality to shut down my Linux servers during a power loss, which would be a great addition to my current setup.

I’ve also been experimenting with controlling my underfloor heating (UFH) system. The current setup works well, but I’d like to automate the water temperature based on outside conditions. I’ve been researching smart thermostatic valves and Shelly TRVs, but I’m still figuring out the best solution that fits my needs. It’s a bit of a puzzle, but I’m excited to see how it all comes together.

One thing I’d like to share is my experience with the EQ3 Bluetooth thermostat. After encountering some firmware issues, I managed to recover it using a guide I found online. It was a bit of a hassle, but now it’s working perfectly with my Home Assistant setup. If anyone else is having trouble with their EQ3, I’d be happy to walk them through the process!

Of course, not everything has been smooth sailing. I’ve had some issues with false alarms from my Fibaro motion sensor, which has been a bit frustrating. However, I’m hopeful that with some adjustments and maybe a firmware update, these problems will be resolved.

Overall, my journey into smart home automation has been filled with both triumphs and challenges. It’s amazing to see how technology can enhance our daily lives, and I’m excited to continue exploring all the possibilities this world has to offer. If anyone has tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them!
