Smart Home Automation and Sensor Configuration Tips

Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation and wanted to share some of my experiences and tips, especially for those who might be new to this.

Starting with automation, I’ve found that setting up a consistent schedule for my devices makes a huge difference. For instance, I use a Shelly PM1 and Shelly Plug to automate my pool heating. The idea is to keep the pool at a lower temperature when it’s not in use and heat it up just before we plan to use it. I’ve set up scenes with different temperature thresholds, which has been really effective. It’s not just about convenience; it’s also about saving energy and costs.

When it comes to sensors, I’ve encountered some interesting challenges. For example, my ESP32 light sensor disconnects when the light level drops to 0 lux, which I suspect might be related to power-saving modes. It’s a bit puzzling, but I’m hoping to figure it out by tweaking the settings or adjusting the code. On the other hand, setting up motion and temperature sensors in my garden has been a breeze, and they integrate seamlessly with my existing setup.

Another area I’ve been exploring is software updates and configurations. I recently updated my hub and noticed some improvements in performance. However, I also came across some deprecated settings, which I’ve been working on replacing to avoid warnings. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but the community support has been invaluable.

I’d love to hear about your experiences—what challenges have you faced, and what tips can you share? Whether it’s about automating daily routines, troubleshooting sensors, or optimizing software configurations, every insight helps!
