Smart Home Automation: Controlling Audio/Video Devices with Homey

Hey everyone! I’ve recently started my journey with Homey and I’m absolutely thrilled with its capabilities. It’s amazing how much you can automate with just a few clicks. However, I’ve been trying to figure out how to control my audio and video devices using Homey, and it’s been quite the adventure!

I’ve managed to set up my KlikAanKlikUit switches, which was a breeze. But when it comes to my Samsung TV, Yamaha receiver, and Motorola Set-top box, things got a bit tricky. I initially thought I could use the Harmony One remote, but I wanted to eliminate the need for it entirely and have everything controlled through Homey.

After some research, I found out that my Samsung TV is supported on the Homey site, which was great news. However, for my Yamaha receiver, I realized I’d need a Homey Pro to connect via LAN. That was a bit unexpected, but I was willing to invest for the convenience. The Motorola Set-top box was a bit of a puzzle since it wasn’t listed, but I discovered that learning infrared commands could be the solution. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Homey allows you to learn IR commands, which means I can still control it without the Harmony One.

The process wasn’t without its bumps. I had to dig through the forums and support pages to find the right information, and some of the guides were a bit outdated. But with persistence, I managed to set everything up. Now, I can turn on my TV, switch inputs, and even browse my recorded shows—all from my Homey app!

It’s incredibly satisfying to have everything integrated seamlessly. I’m now looking into adding more smart home features, like automating my lighting and thermostat. If you’re considering Homey for your audio/video setup, I’d say go for it! It’s worth the time and effort to get everything working smoothly.

Happy automating everyone! :video_game::sparkles:
