As I continue my journey into the world of smart home automation, I’ve encountered both triumphs and challenges. Today, I’d like to share some of my experiences and insights, as well as ask for advice from the community.
Configuring Metric Services with Influx 2.x
One area I’ve been focusing on is setting up the Metric Services addon in openHAB alongside Influx 2.x. While the documentation provides a good foundation, I’ve run into some hurdles, particularly with authentication. The current setup requires a user and password, which I believe is intended for Influx 1.x. Does anyone have experience configuring this with Influx 2.x? Specifically, I’m unsure where to input the token for authentication. My environment is running openHAB 3.4 on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS within a Proxmox VM.
Integrating Hubitat with SmartThings
Another topic I’m passionate about is migrating from SmartThings to Hubitat. Previously, I used Webcore in SmartThings to automate my window shades based on the AWAY mode, opening and closing at random times each day. Now, I’m exploring how to replicate this functionality in Hubitat. If anyone has successfully implemented similar automation, I’d love to hear about your approach!
TV Recommendations for SmartThings Integration
I’ve also been researching smart TVs that integrate seamlessly with SmartThings. Last year, there were some issues reported with Samsung TVs, but I’m not entirely sure if those have been resolved. I’m looking for a TV in the UK that can be controlled via WiFi, ideally triggering scenes when turned on or off. The KS7000 model seems promising, but I’d appreciate any recommendations or experiences from others who’ve made similar purchases.
Outdoor RGBW Lighting Setup
Another project I’ve been working on is installing outdoor RGBW lighting strips. After spending considerable time researching options, I’m still undecided between DIY solutions and out-of-the-box products. For DIY, I’ve come across controllers like the 3A Nue, FLS-PP, and Fibaro, but I’m unsure which one would be best for my setup, especially considering outdoor use. The Sylvania Smart+ outdoor flex strip seems like a viable plug-and-play option, but I’m curious if others have had success with it or if there are better alternatives.
Smart Home Automation Tips
I’d also like to share a few tips I’ve picked up along the way. For instance, using routines to automate daily tasks has been incredibly helpful. One example is setting up my garage door to automatically close after 5 minutes if motion isn’t detected in the garage. This has added an extra layer of security without requiring constant monitoring.
Request for Community Feedback
If anyone has advice on the topics I’ve mentioned or would like to share their own smart home automation experiences, I’d be grateful to hear from you! Whether it’s about specific devices, configurations, or tips for optimizing automation, your insights are invaluable.
