As the holiday season approaches, I’ve been working on perfecting my smart home setup to ensure peace of mind while I’m away. One feature I’ve been particularly excited about is integrating Govee RGBIC lights with custom scenes. Imagine being able to say, “Alexa, set TV lights to rainbow scene” and watch as your living room transforms into a vibrant display of colors. It’s a small touch, but it adds so much personality to the space!
I’ve also been experimenting with motion detectors and leak sensors. For instance, I recently installed a Dome Water Main Shutoff Valve and paired it with leak sensors in my kitchen and laundry room. The setup is incredibly straightforward—just plug it in and let SmartThings handle the rest. The best part? If a leak is detected, the valve automatically shuts off, preventing potential water damage. It’s a reassuring feature, especially during the winter months when pipes can freeze.
Another project I’ve been working on is creating a scene for outdoor lighting that activates at sunset and deactivates at sunrise. While the technology itself is impressive, I’ve been hoping for better integration with Siri for voice control. It would be amazing to say, “Hey Siri, turn on the sunset lights” and have it work seamlessly. I’ve given the app a 3-star rating because, while it’s a great product, there’s always room for improvement.
I’d love to hear from others about their favorite smart home features or any tips they have for optimizing automation. What’s your go-to setup for holidays or vacations? Let’s share and inspire each other to make our homes smarter and more enjoyable!
Happy holidays and here’s to a tech-filled new year! ![]()
