I’ve been absolutely thrilled with how my smart home setup has transformed my daily life. One of the most innovative projects I’ve undertaken is creating an automation system to detect when someone is showering. Here’s how it all came together: I installed a room humidity sensor and a door contact sensor in my bathroom. Using Home Assistant, I programmed the system to monitor the humidity levels whenever the bathroom door is closed. When the humidity increases by more than 5%, the system triggers an alert, letting me know that someone is showering. This automation also tracks how long the shower lasts, which is super helpful for monitoring water usage!
The best part? This system works seamlessly even if multiple people take turns showering. The humidity sensor evaluates the increase in moisture, regardless of the baseline humidity level, ensuring accurate detection every time. It’s been a game-changer for our household, especially since our bathroom is also home to a toilet that’s only partially accessible during showers.
