Smart Home Automation Success Story: Integrating Thermostats and Motion Sensors

After months of research and planning, I finally completed my smart home automation setup, and I’m thrilled to share my experience! :tada: My journey began with upgrading my thermostat system to the Nest Learning Thermostat, paired with Shelly Dimmer Gen3 devices for lighting control. The integration has been seamless, and the energy savings are already noticeable!

One of the most satisfying projects was setting up motion-activated lighting in my kitchen and hallway. Using Qolsys IQ 2 door sensors and Fibaro universal binary sensors, I created a system that automatically turns on lights at 20% brightness when motion is detected, then dims them after 15 minutes of inactivity. It’s been a game-changer for late-night trips to the kitchen! :star2:

I also faced a few hurdles along the way, like troubleshooting the Shelly Dimmer Gen3 MQTT configuration. After some trial and error, I found that using Home Assistant’s built-in MQTT broker simplified the process significantly. If anyone is struggling with similar issues, I’d be happy to share my setup details!

Looking ahead, I’m excited to explore more advanced automation features, like integrating my LG Smart TV with the Homey app for a fully connected entertainment experience. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to expand my smart home ecosystem! :rocket:

If you’re just starting your smart home journey, my advice is to take it one step at a time and don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for support. Happy automating! :bulb:
