Hey everyone, I wanted to share a success story about my recent smart home automation project. After struggling with unreliable motion sensors for months, I finally got everything working smoothly! ![]()
Here’s the backstory: I wanted to set up my bathroom lights to turn on when motion is detected and play a soothing track for a relaxing experience. The challenge was making sure the music didn’t reset every time the sensor detected new motion. After some research and trial and error, I figured out a solution using Rule Machine on my C7 hub.
I documented the entire process and thought it might help someone else facing similar challenges. Here’s a quick overview of what I learned:
-
Motion Sensor Reliability: I upgraded to more reliable sensors and positioned them strategically to cover the entire bathroom area without blind spots.
-
Rule Machine Setup: I used a combination of delays and conditional actions to ensure the music starts once and continues for 5 minutes after the last motion detection.
-
Volume Control: I added a pre-delay to adjust the volume before the music starts, ensuring a smooth transition.
If anyone has tips for improving this setup or wants to troubleshoot similar issues, feel free to reach out! I’m happy to share my code and any lessons learned. ![]()
