I recently completed a project that I’m really proud of—a custom garage setup for my Xiaomi Roborock S55 vacuum cleaner. It’s been a fantastic way to integrate smart home automation into my daily life, and I wanted to share my experience in case it inspires others or provides some tips for similar projects.
The setup involved creating an automated system where the vacuum can dock, charge, and clean the garage without any manual intervention. I used a Sonoff SV as the garage door controller and paired it with a Blum Servo-Drive motor for smooth operation. The integration with Home Assistant was seamless, and I even created a custom GitHub repository to document the configuration process. It’s been a learning curve, but seeing everything work together perfectly is incredibly satisfying.
One of the challenges I faced was ensuring that all components communicated effectively. I had to tweak some settings and troubleshoot a few hiccups, but the end result has been worth every bit of effort. The vacuum now runs on a schedule, and I can monitor its status and adjust settings directly from my phone.
If anyone is thinking about a similar project, I’d recommend starting with a clear plan and doing some research on compatible components. It’s also helpful to engage with online communities for support and ideas. The sense of accomplishment from creating something functional and efficient is truly rewarding.
I’m already brainstorming ways to expand this setup, maybe adding more sensors or integrating it with other smart devices. The possibilities are endless, and I’m excited to continue exploring the world of smart home automation!
If you’ve got any tips or questions about similar projects, I’d love to hear them. Happy automating everyone! ![]()
