The holiday season brought me an exciting surprise with my Govee Christmas gift!
I received a set of smart devices, including a door sensor and a button, which I’ve been itching to try out for some time now. Let me share how I’ve been experimenting with these devices and the fun automations I’ve created!
My Setup Journey
I’ve always been a fan of Govee products, especially their meat thermometer, which I found to be incredibly accurate and user-friendly. So, when I opened my Christmas box and saw the door sensor and button, I was thrilled to dive into some new projects.
The Door Sensor Automation
I decided to use the door sensor to trigger my bedroom lights. By placing it outside my door, I set up an automation where the lights turn on as soon as I open the door. This was a breeze to set up using IFTTT, which sends commands through my Alexa network. It’s such a small touch, but it really enhances my daily routine!
The Button Automation
I also wanted to create something a bit more complex with the button. I placed it near my bed and programmed it to turn off all my bedroom devices when pressed. Through IFTTT, pressing the button triggers a series of actions: turning off the lights, the TV, the audio system, and even the fans. It’s like a one-button bedtime routine!
A Little hiccup and a Solution
While setting this up, I encountered a minor issue. IFTTT requires a yearly fee, which I wasn’t initially aware of. After a quick check, I found that the service was worth the cost, especially considering the convenience it provides. It’s a small price to pay for such seamless automation!
Final Thoughts
This project has been a delightful way to explore the capabilities of Govee devices. I’m amazed at how these small gadgets can make such a big difference in my home. If you’re looking to dip your toes into smart home automation, I highly recommend starting with Govee’s affordable and user-friendly products!
