Smart Home Automation with Motion Sensors and Wall Plugs

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on. I’ve managed to set up my older Android tablet to act as a smart display for my Homey dashboard and Netatmo weather station. The challenge was figuring out how to make the tablet’s screen turn on only when needed, without staying on all the time.

After some research, I stumbled upon a clever solution using a motion sensor and a wall plug. Here’s how it works: I placed the motion sensor next to the tablet and set it to the lowest sensitivity. In Homey, I created a flow that triggers when the motion sensor detects movement. This flow then toggles the wall plug on and off, which activates the tablet’s screen. It’s a simple yet effective setup!

Now, whenever I walk by, the tablet lights up, showing me the latest weather data from my Netatmo station. It’s been running smoothly for a few weeks now, and I’m really impressed with how reliable it is. I even considered building a custom housing for the tablet, motion sensor, and plug to make it look more polished.

This project got me thinking about other ways to integrate motion sensors into my smart home. Maybe I could use them to control lighting or adjust thermostat settings based on where I am in the house. The possibilities are endless!

If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing motion sensor setups or integrating them with other devices, I’d love to hear about them. Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
