I wanted to share a fun experience I’ve had with my smart home setup and my cat, Mouse.
As many of you know, integrating technology with pets can be both amusing and challenging, but it’s always rewarding when it works out!Earlier this week, I decided to set up a motion sensor in the living room to detect when Mouse is playing with her favorite string toy. The idea was to have the lights dim slightly and play some calming music to create a relaxing environment for both of us. I used my Zigbee motion sensor connected to Home Assistant, and it’s been working perfectly! Here’s how I set it up:- Motion sensor detects activity.- If motion is detected between 8 AM and 8 PM, the lights dim to 50%.- A playlist of classical music starts playing softly.- If no further motion is detected for 15 minutes, everything returns to normal. It’s been a delightful way to enjoy some quiet time while keeping an eye on Mouse’s playful antics. The best part? I can monitor everything from my phone or tablet, no matter where I am in the house.I’d love to hear how others have integrated smart home tech with their pets. Have you tried anything similar or have any tips for making pet interactions even more seamless? Let’s share our experiences and maybe inspire each other to try something new! ![]()
